Working together in partnership to deliver sustainable outcomes is a key part of what we do at SEStran, REGIO MOB is a great example of this. We get the opportunity to work with a diverse group of European partners to secure Europe’s sustainable growth by promoting sustainable mobility. Following on from the recent REGIO MOB workshop held in Rome, Italy in March 2017, the SEStran team invited local stakeholders from the SEStran region to share and develop knowledge focussed on delivering best practices in sustainable transport across Europe.

SEStran enjoyed hosting representatives from academia, the NHS, transport operators, Transport Scotland and our local authority partners. SEStran presented four examples of best practice –
From Anci Lazio in Italy:

  • The EU funded PASTA project which promotes the benefits of active travel leading to a healthier, more physically active population.
  • The EU funded Limit4WeDA project which develops solutions for transport in rural and sparsely populated areas.

From the Western Region of Macedonia in Greece:

  • The evaluation of road traffic accident data – identifying accident black spots through GIS analysis.
  • The EU funded Green eMotion project which aims to create an EU-wide network of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

The next stage in the journey sees SEStran Officers visiting Ljubljana, Slovenia in late May to attend a workshop on the countries’ two examples of best practices.
By the end of the REGIO MOB project, SEStran will adopt two sustainable transport best practices into the SEStran region.
