The South East of Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran) has appointed Councillor Gordon Edgar as the Partnership’s new Chair. Councillor Edgar is the third chair since sestran became a statutory public body. Cllr Colin Davidson of Fife council and Cllr Lesley MacInnes of City of Edinburgh council were elected as Deputy Chairpersons.

Gordon is a Scottish Borders councillor and was first elected in 2003 and has been a member of SEStran for 9 years. He’s Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Spokesperson for Scottish Borders Councils.

Councillor Edgar said “I am delighted to have been elected by my fellow board members. I’m most excited by what the partnership can do to improve transport for commuters, communities and companies in the south east of Scotland. Transport is vital to the delivery of health, education and enterprise services and I’m keen that by working together, the 8 councils can drive improvements and accelerate sustainably growth for the region.

I am looking forward to continuing to be built consensus across Councillor colleagues from Clackmannanshire, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Fife, Falkirk, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian to address a number of pressing transport challenges and opportunities for the region and engage positively with others in the changes proposed and emerging from the planning, enterprise/skills and transport strategy reviews.

There will in future years need to be a greater focus on sustainability and efficiency, new technology and innovations will need to be embraced both in communications and mobility. I see SEStran as a leader in providing these services, supporting our member councils and partners to provide a safe, sustainable, efficient and economic transport infrastructure for our area.”
