SEStran is pleased to announce a successful bid for funding from the Smart Ticketing Challenge Fund through Transport Scotland and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2014-2020 Programme. For the second year in a row SEStran has secured funding to compliment their own funding of the purchase of smart ticketing equipment for bus operators.
The fund aims to encourage an increase in the number of smart commercial journeys taken by December 2018, and a modal shift to forms of transport with lower carbon emissions.
The larger Scottish bus operators are also actively involved in this work. They are collaborating with each other, with rail and the Regional Transport Partnerships (like SEStran) to develop new smart and integrated ticketing offerings.
SEStran is continuing to work with the other bus operators to expand the reach of smart ticketing bringing the ambition for a seamless Scotland wide integrated ticketing experience for passengers closer.
State of the art Smart Ticketing equipment also facilitates the extended reach and accessibility of the regions Real Time Passenger Information network which SEStran is also expanding. The current phase of which also includes the placement of commercial LED screens displaying live travel times that also offers the opportunity to display relevant advertising, news feeds, weather feeds or general announcements to the traveling public- it is flexible, adaptable and available to any organisation within the SEStran region (for more information contact Keith Fisken 0131 524 5167).
